On March 14, 2026, the XLVI Monográfica del Mastín del Pirineo took place in Sobrado dos Monxes (A Coruña), Spain.
This annual Spanish event is organised by the CMPE (Club del Mastín del Pirineo de España), authorized by the Spanish Kennelclub, the RSCE, so a point for the Spanish Championship can be earned.
Each year, a local team of the club takes responsibility for organising the show. For the 2026 edition, that role was taken on by Xosé Ramón Reiriz, and members of Galicia who ensured the event ran smoothly and successfully.
The show was judged by D. Juanjo Ridaura.
Originally, the event was scheduled to be held at the historic Monastery of Sobrado dos Monxes, a remarkable location with a rich cultural heritage. Unfortunately, persistent rain and temperatures of around 6°C forced organisers to relocate the show to a nearby sports centre in order to keep the dogs, exhibitors, and visitors dry and comfortable.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, the friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere remained unchanged. The event once again brought together breeders and enthusiasts united by their passion for the Pyrenean Mastiff. Approximately 40 dogs were entered in the show. At the end of the day, the prestigious Best of Breed title was awarded to Voceira de Gaspalleira, an impressive male, while Best Opposite Sex went to Ch. Marinida de Gaspalleira. Breeder Ana Jacob had every reason to feel proud of these outstanding results.
As is customary in Spain, the day continued after the judging with a late lunch, followed in the evening by the traditional Championship Dinner at a local restaurant. During this gathering, the prizes for the various categories were officially presented to the proud owners.
Next year’s edition promises to be particularly special, as the CMPE will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Founded with the aim of reviving and safeguarding the Pyrenean Mastiff, the club has spent five decades dedicated to preserving and promoting this remarkable breed.
